African ChangeMakers Fellows Cohort 2 in Akwa -Ibom, Nigeria Community Project. PART 2.
REPORT ON SECONDARY SCHOOL OUTREACH PROJECT BY THE AKWA IBOM STATE AFRICAN CHANGEMAKERS COHORT 2 FELLOWS.
The project was to address youth violence among secondary school students (SS1 to SS2). The Akwa Ibom State African ChangeMakers collaborated with Youth Alive Foundation (YAF), Uyo who currently are on a project called YPAC (Strengthening Youth Against Corruption). We identified corruption as one of the causes of youth violence in the society and this necessitated our partnership.
The team arrived St. Paul Comprehensive Secondary School, 20 Imek Road, Ikot Ekpene around 10 am and 11 am. The students converged at the school’s multi-purpose hall at 12 noon and the interactive session began.
The students were attentive and gave their input at each of the topic heading.
At the end of the interaction, the students asked questions and the ACF/YAF facilitators gave the correct answers. Incentives (Exercise books and Biros) were given to active participated students. In attendance were over 198 students.
A call was made to students who wanted to be mentored by African Change Makers. Fifty five (55) students indicated interest (29 males and 26 females) to be mentored. Akwa Ibom ACF agreed with the school to have ACM club in the school for mentoring and future trainings.
