My name is NFOR Shirley MBURLI, I am 26 years old and Cameroonian by nationality. I am a native of the Wimbum tribe, specifically from Sehn, Donga Mantung Division, Northwest Region of Cameroon. I was born to the family of Pa NFOR Ezekiel SUNJOH and Ma NFOR Odilia NDOBI on the 12th of December 1992. As the last born in a family of 6 children (5 girls, 1 boy), I left Sehn with my entire family at the age of one year to Yaounde where I virtually spent my entire life. I started school at the age of 3 (class 1) at Government Bilingual Primary School -Yaounde, seven years after which I obtained the First School Leaving Certificate and Common Entrance certificate in flying colors.
I was then admitted in the year 2002 at Government Bilingual Practicing High School (GBPHS) -Yaounde (commonly referred to as LBA), where I obtained the General Certificate of Education – Ordinary Level 5 years later (in the year 2007). I continued to High School in the same institution and obtained the General Certificate of Education – Advanced levels two years after (2009). From there, I was admitted to the University of Buea to study Botany and Plant Physiology. Three years after (June 2012), I obtained a BSc. (Hons) in Botany and Plant Physiology with a GPA of 3.12/4, earning me the 3rd position in a class of about 30 students. I was immediately admitted (that same year, December 2012) to a Master’s program in Food Sciences and Nutrition at the National Advanced School of Agro-industrial Sciences, University of Ngaoundere, Adamawa Region of Cameroon. I defended my MSc. in Food Sciences and Nutrition two year later (December 2014) under the Specialty Food Microbiology and Biotechnology with a GPA of 3.07/4, earning me the 3rd position in a class of 10 students.
From Ngaoundere, I moved to Bamenda, the capital of the Northwest Region of Cameroon where I began my professional career. Passionate about cookery and handicraft, I spent the entire years 2015-2016 learning professional baking and bead assembling. From February 2017 to May 2017, I was admitted as participant and intern in the Inclusive Women Empowerment and Mentorship Training Program, under the United Youths Organization, Bamenda, Northwest Region of Cameroon where I had a 4 months experience in mentorship and entrepreneurship. In June 2017, I was employed with the Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services (CBCHS), as District Clinical Mentor under the HIV Free Project (funded by CDC-PEPFAR), in Yaounde, Capital of the Center Region of Cameroon. Six months after, I was re-assigned to work as Programs Development Officer with the Non-Communicable Disease Prevention and Control Program, North West Region of Cameroon, still under the CBCHS where I have been working till date.
I am very passionate about human nutrition and interested in developing nutrition improvement programs. I am interested in further trainings, conferences, workshops, and seminars etc, both within and out of my country for continuous capacity building to improve my knowledge and skills on the subject matters and to share my experience. This for the betterment of the services I offer as Programs Officer (and nutrition improvement) with respect to non-communicable diseases prevention and control within the Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services. I equally have intentions to further my education (PhD) in human nutrition a few years from now after having acquired some work experience in my field of competence.
